Proposed Car Parking Fees

Due to the severity of cuts imposed on Richmondshire District Council the policy on charging for car parking has been reviewed this summer 2011.  Members have had the opportrunity to attend two Workshops to debate the key principles of car parking within Richmondshire and look at costings for each RDC owned car park.  There was broad agreement that equality of charging should be implemented across the district and Town and Parish Councils be given the opportunity to take over the running of any car park within their Ward. 

David McGloin, Assistant Director RDC, attended the Town Council meeting on Monday 7th November 2011 to discuss.  It was agreed that in order to ensure parking charges were not imposed and the businesses given a fair chance of survival that Colburn Town Council would take over ownership of The Broadway car park.

Colburn Town Council did not wish to take over ownership of the little car park adjacent to the toilets at the White Shops or Colburn Lorry Park and recommended that the portaloo be removed with an annual saving of some £900.

At a further meeting held on 6th February, Mark Haynes RDC Business & Community Officer, hoped that the transfer to the Town Council would be made by 1st April 2012.  At present only the tarmac area to be involved, not the surrounding grassed area or flower beds on The Broadway.
