The Celtic Fairies

Part V111

The Mothers Blessings looked up to their King and spoke of another way, a way where they could come up out from the Underworld and live, openly, in the sun, on The Island of Honey; there would be no more killing but it would be a long business; in fact it would be an Endless Task. For once set on the road to the Master Plan there would be no turning back. It was morphing for all time. The Master Plan would have to be signed by every fairy clan with their blood for once undertaken the Master Plan would have to be fulfilled for the lives of their children were at stake.

A hush descended at the high table and the whole chamber fell  silent as Jacob of the Mothers Blessings told the clans of the Endless Task and the final goal, the Master Plan.

"Listen to me all of you, my clan has spoken of this in great length; we see it as the only way we can avoid bloodshed, but achieve what we need for the safety of our children", spoke Jacob at the High Table as he faced the whole chamber, his voice reverberating through their underworld.

"Our children are small, while the children of the tall people grow big and strong. The longer we stay in Annwm, day and night, the smaller our children will become while the children of the tall people and the Pwwntobi grow taller and stronger year by year; so the gap widens and if we do not embark on our Master Plan soon it might be too late, for our children could never catch up, in a million years".

"Our Master Plan, put simply, which would start the Endless Task is to bring the tall peoples babies into Annwm while our babies must go up in their place into the light.

A murmer started in the chamber which rose to a roar until the King got to his feet and held his golden orb aloft shouting in a booming voice,

"Hear them out, I command, then the High table will debate once again".

Silence fell, apart from the frantic scraping of the pens belonging to the scribes on the huge rolls of parchment.

"How can this be done?", asked King Gwyn, looking at Jacob with a deep frown on his forehead and gesturing for him to rise to his feet once again.

Jacob rose and spoke as loudly as he could, "The fairy circles can be opened up to bring the children into Annwm and we would choose the biggest, strongest, babies of the tall people and the smallest, weakest, fairy children and change them over in their cribs when just born".

"The Mothers Blessings are willing to carry out this task with the help of our brothers and sisters, the Elves of the Blue Petticoats. The Elves are the fleetest of foot, as you know, of all fairy clans, we need their speed should anyone awaken while we are changing the babies over".

"But wouldn't the tall people know?"

asked the King.

Jacob answered him, without hesitation, " Your Majesty, Tall people cannot enter Annwm  and we would nurture the children well. We would watch that they did not harm the fairy child, should they suspect something and should this happen we will return the fairy child to Annwm. The tall people will  learn that if they neglect a fairy child, they will have it taken from them and they will lose two babies. We believe the tall people would grow to love the fairy child and treat it as their own, which is what mothers and fathers do whether a child is small or tall".

The King shook his head, again, in fact he shook it until it might have dropped off if he had not stop doing it and he asked, again, of Jacob.

"But how would this mean we could go up into the light.".

Jacob answered him directly , "It would be the Endless Task your Majesty, the Master Plan dictates that after three generations the children born to the fairy children in the light would be nearly as tall as the children now born to the tall people in the light; After that time there would be no Annwm as all the fairies could go up to the Island of Honey and no one will be able to differentiate between the small babies of the tall people and the tall babies of the small people. This is our Master Plan and we see it as the perfect way for everyone to live in the sunlight".

We understand that this would not end the rule of the Pwwntobi but that will be for future generations of people to attend to when all are in the light.

"Debate this issue", commanded King Gwyn as he struck his orb on the brittle floor of the chamber sending out chunks of coloured stone which flashed in the light of a thousand lanterns.

The Fair Peoples spokesman rose to his feet at the High Table, "But vengeance will not be ours and the Pwwntobi will survive", he stated.

The Lake Fairies brought in their dreamy voices, " It is an everlasting solution and one which we seek, if we go to war then good as well as bad will die;  who are we to differentiate between peoples; we would also lose a lot of people if we fight in the open. Perhaps the Endless Task and the ultimate Master Plan is a cleverer and longer lasting solution.

The Fair People and the Lake Fairies then voted as one for the Master Plan.

The Mothers Blessings rose  at their seats on the High Table together with the Bwbachs who had returned to Annwm for the Council, they all raised their hands saying, we are for the Everlasting Task and the Master Plan.

The Elves of the blue petticoats stood and shouted their ayes.

The Witches under the watchful eye of the King rose, not quite as fast as the others and muttered about wasting their powers to which the King answered, "Powers will not be wasted but will be used for the benefit of all. Are you for trying the plan or no?"

The Witches looked around at the other clans and raised their hands, saying begrudgingly,

"Aye we are for the Master Plan".
