The Celtic Fairies

Part V1

The hum in the Cathedral Chamber got louder and louder as more and more fairies snaked into the huge cavern. They sat everywhere they could and those who were the chosen spokespersons for each clan made their way to the high table.

A bowman had been sent to all corners of the Underworld, with an unstrung bow raised aloft in his arm as a signal that the King of the Fairies had summoned them to attend a Council Meeting. He would return to show the strung bow held aloft when matters were settled and the Underworld could return to normal.

The fairies gathered together in their clans, the Mothers Blessings acting like a magnet to all the children in the huge Cathedral Chamber. The Mothers Blessings  had the biggest, softest arms you could imagine, the best games and enough love for all children whoever they belonged to.

Despite the pleadings of the peacemakers, the Fair People and  King Gwyn ap Nudd, it was passed at the Council that revenge would be taken for the death of their beloved sister, who had been killed that day.

All hands were raised aloft, many of them shaped into fists, burning with the knowledge that one of their own had been taken and they could not even bury the body with dignity.

Now they would use their powers to protect themselves. For the first time in this new land, they would exact revenge from the Pwwntobi.

The vote was taken and the whole chamber echoed with the shouts of Death to the Pwwntobi, Death to the Pwwntobi, Death to the Pwwntobi until it became a chant which shook the very foundations of their kingdom.

The council scribes wrote down the decision and it was passed by the whole Council. After that decision was recorded matters turned to dealing with their exiled life under the ground and the suffering of their children. They had to decide how to take their people out from the Underworld into the light of the Island of Honey, they must free themselves, once and for all.

As the chants resounded through the huge cathedral chamber, the torches were held aloft and revenge filled the air. Gwyn ap Nudd pulled his wife to him and whispered to her not to be afraid, this was a new era they were moving into and sometimes, just sometimes certain things must be done so that they can move forward as a people.

Ten days later the Pwwntobi who had killed the Red Fairy and carried her body out of the forest aloft, went missing.

A search party went out to look for him and found his body lying in the undergrowth.

The Pwwntobi had two puncture wounds in his neck and every drop of blood had been drained from his body.

War was declared on the little people by a very afraid Pwwntobi.

The revenge of the Red Fairies was completed. Their  ability to kill as vampires had been brought back into their lives, and from now on it was a life for a life.

It was rumoured at this time that some of the bwbach, after the death of the Red Fairy, decided to leave this island and travelled across the sea to Ireland. There they settled disguised in the verdant green of that country which made them even harder to spot.

Legend says that the Irish people took to calling them leprechauns, but we know where they came from, exiled bwbachs from our own island. It is said they became revered by the Irish people and they were happy that they had crossed the sea. But many stayed behind on our island and their journey after the red fairies death was long and rocky.
