The Celtic Fairies
Part V11
The people of The Isle of Honey were now protecting the fairies and the fairies would help them.
The fairies who mined in the Underworld were of the Mothers Blessings clan, they had black rimmed eyes and always carried shining brass lamps to light their way. Because they were of the Mothers Blessings they loved all children and these little miners would often make themselves visible to children in the forest. They were sometimes spotted playing with the children close to the fairy circles where they would magically place entrances into the Underworld, so that should the Pwwntobi come across them they could disappear down the fairy circle entrance into the Underworld and be safe.
The huge full Council was convened, the Cathedral chamber hummed with the murmering voices of the whole of the fairy kingdom. Lanterns sprung from every stalagmite, stalagtite, nook and crannie.
The Mountain Fairies and the Fair People played the huge cathedral organ with soothing water music which made all the children nestle in their mothers and fathers arms dreamy eyed.
The King of the Fairies took his throne which was high up above the organ and the Council started. Out of each clan came ten people who climbed to the high table above the organs and in front of the King and the Queen.
The scribes took their places on the high pointed stalagmites which had been flattened at the tips. Their rolls of parchment lay on the stalagmite tables in front of them.
Gwyn ap Nudd raised his hand; all that could be heard in the chamber as the huge organ shuddered to a halt, with droning notes, was the scraping of the scribes pens on the parchment rolls
"We are here my friends", the king spoked
"To find a way to take our people from this underworld onto the Island of Honey so that our children will thrive and we will have the sunlight which is ours by right".
Murmered ayes were resounding around the huge chamber as the King raised his hand again, for silence.
"From now on during this council the only people who will speak will be those at the high table. If anyone has no representation at the table, will they now speak, otherwise scribes record and high table debate.
The whole chamber fell into silence so that all could hear the discussions taking place at the High table. One by one the chosen representative of each of the clans got to their feet and put the feelings and ideas of their own clan forward.
The witches asked for full out war, where all the powers of the fairies, which were many, would be used to kill the Pwwntobi. They argued that the tall people who were not of the Pwwntobi would thank them for this and they would then all be free of the People who wished to be important.
The Lake Fairies proposed a deluge to cover the land and wipe out everything. As keepers of the lakes and rivers they had the power to raise the water.
The Mothers Blessings warned that it was not right to kill children who had done no wrong, even Pwwntobi children. They wished their powers to be used to kill all adults but not the children.
The little miners cried silent tears as they asked that the Pwwntobi be segregated from the other tall people and that the tall people be saved as they had many friends amongst them.
The bwbach swore that he could not live in houses without the tall people and if they were wiped out by the fairies then they would leave to follow their brothers to Ireland and the Bwbach would be gone for ever from our shores.
The Mountain Fairies spoke of enticing the Pwwntobi over the steep sides of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to their deaths with their beautiful song.
The Fair People, the smallest people in Annwm with their gentle healing ways cried at the vengeance at the table and turned to the thousands of fairies in the chamber pleading with them to take vengeance from their hearts and support their leaders to find another way.
Could there be another way?
