Training, what training? 31 October 2017 Today I went to the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff to attend the training session. Or should I say a number of training providers offering the same as the old fashioned new deal offered. I spoke to a number of them and took some leaflets but none of them offered any real training. Although UC isn’t supposed to be rolling out in Cardiff until February I am still no nearer understanding about the missing rental payment that will occur. If the government drop the waiting time until just one month then that would solve it. At the moment when you transfer from JSA to UC you have to wait one month and a week to receive your first payment. That means that after you have waited all that time they only give you a month’s rent to pay the landlord leaving you a week’s rent in arrears. I have contacted a number of people over this and some do mention that you can ask for a discretionary payment but they don’t understand that that particular payment should not be for paying the rent but for daily bills and food. A number of landlords have informed me that a person would end up a week in arrears because the DWP don’t pay on waiting days and that is what the extra week is. I’m hoping that the time is reduced to four weeks as they are suggesting, they say four weeks and I’m taking that as a month. I was advised to go on the government website and look at the verified options, they are sites that the government suggest are safe to verify your identification. All part of the process of signing up to UC. I might have to ask for a discretionary payment and pay it back over six months when my time comes but the week of arrears that might accrue bothers me. I will update this website as events happen. | ![]() |
