I arrived at Learn About in Newport for my induction before they find me a placement on the Communities Work Placement scheme and was soon given forms to fill in.  The forms all had the Working Links logo on them and would be sent to Working Links.  Learn About are owned by ACT Training who were once well respected in South Wales but when word gets out that they are making money from workfare through Learn About most of that respect will be gone.  I was given dates to turn up at Learn About to do four hours of jobsearch.  A week later I turned up for my jobsearch and only got on one of the seven computers with an hour and a half left of the four hours.  My most recent trip to Learn About was interesting.  All the computers were being used so six of us were put into a room that had three chairs on one side and three on the other. It was a small box room and anyone trying to get in or out had to avoid our legs.  Not even enough room to put a table in.  We were handed tablets to use for our four hours of jobsearch and it wasn't very comfortable holding them non stop for four hours.  One guy spent most of the time looking for news stories instead of jobsearch.  Health and Safety regulations were probably broken but these companies don't really care about that.  Towards the end of the four hours three names were called and told to go into the other room as they had found them placements and the rest of us were allowed to leave.  They will very likely find me a placement soon and I will endure the six months best I can.  At the moment they are paying us our travelling expenses for the jobsearch but they said that when the placements start they will be paying it at the end of the week instead of at the start of the placement.  That means that they will want our bank account numbers to pay the money in.  Hopefully my placement will be in Cardiff within walking distance and I won't need bus fares.
