I felt a little bit pressured but we will see what happens. 23 May 2015 I went along to the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff for my fortnightly signing and was called by a woman who usually treats me really well. She was polite and efficient as usual but for some reason I felt a bit uneasy. She asked if if I had considered any of the courses at Marland House and I said that they were all a bit basic for me. She then pushed me about signing up for a first aid course and said that it would help me get a job. I replied that I didn't think that course would help me one bit but she couldn't understand why I would not go on a course that could only help me. I told her that many long term unemployed have done that course and they are still unemployed but I would do it if she forces me to. She then looked on the computer screen and said that I hadn't worked for a while and actually stated the year and she repeated the year at least three times in a couple of minutes. I didn't respond to it as the year she was quoting was at the end of one of my courses that I had to make a rapid reclaim for so the date was way out. That tactic of saying out loud the date was used against me at my interviews after I had completed the Work Programme and started on the Post Work Programme support at the Jobcentre. It's a way of upsetting someone in the hope that they do anything rather than continue signing at the Jobcentre. It was also mentioned that I should apply for jobs that included cleaning, caring and jobs such as kitchen assistant rather than admin and warehouse. She also stated that as most of my jobs are applied through the UJM website it takes only a few clicks to apply so how would I justify 30 hours jobsearch when that starts. I said that I go through many jobs on various sites to find the ones that I apply for so my jobsearch takes a lot longer than a few clicks. Because she has always been fair to me over a fairly long period I still regard her as one of the better staff at the Charles St Jobcentre and it's probably orders from above that is making her more forceful than usual. They do say that many Jobcentre staff are about to lose their jobs so maybe she wants to keep hers as she is aware of how tough it is going to be for the unemployed. On a good note, I have just been to the local cash machine and found that my JSA has been paid in. It was due on tuesday after the bank holiday so I have bought a few stores and will enjoy a small feast over the holiday period. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
