Another confidence building course to attend.
14 August 2014

Today was the day I had to attend the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff with the Work Plan booklet I was given after having to sign up to the Claimant Commitment. It replaces my Jobseekers Agreement and basically it means that I have to write down two statements regarding my efforts over the next fortnight to find work and just before I have to go to the Jobcentre I must write in what I actually did. If the answers don't match the planned efforts then I could be in sanction territory. So off I went to the Jobcentre and as usual no security guards were at the entrance. As I was walking along on the ground floor a man with a clipboard asked me what I wanted and I instantly replied that I was due to sign and he allowed me to proceed. I sat down and waited, I was at least five minutes early and the woman who introduced herself to me a fortnight ago as my Advisor was at her desk but showed no sign of calling me. A few minutes after my official time I was called by a woman who was signing people. She had a look at my Work Plan booklet and told me that I have been booked onto a one hour course next week at the Jobcentre for the over 50's. It is supposed to be about confidence building and taking the next steps to find employment. Of course I will go along to keep them happy even though I have done many courses on confidence building in the past. The woman was very polite and signed my Work Plan booklet, as I had allowed access today on my UJM account I think she had a look and just as we were completing everything a young guy who was a member of staff asked her about something regarding another claimant. She let me go and hopefully she put my benefit through. I'm always a bit nervous regarding benefits being processed when a member of staff is interrupted. At the time she was just about to process my benefit on the computer before the young guy turned up at her desk. On a lighter note, I was walking back from Cardiff City centre and decided to take a short cut. I crossed a road and in front of me about twenty yards was what looked like a middle aged woman who I could hear talking. Both of her arms were down to her side so I thought she must have one of those handsfree phones. The street was a row of terraced houses, she was walking quite slowly so I went to the outside of the pavement and walked on by. I could see in the distance an old guy standing outside his front door and as I was walking in his direction the woman suddenly started shouting. I must have been a few houses in front of her and she was shouting at the top of her voice and using all kinds of foul language. She was shouting out insults to some guy called Mike and threatening to go to the police. Well, the old guy was looking at me as I was approaching and giving me the evil eye as if he thought I must be this Mike guy and how could I be so nasty to her. Of course I had no idea who this woman was and I thought it best not to look back. As I passed the old guy I gave him a kind of look that suggested that she must be a nutter. As the old guy and I were the only two guys in the street when she was shouting, if he ever spots me again he will probably think bad of me and maybe even point me out to people in the street. It's so easy to walk down the road minding your own business and be accused of something you have not done.
