Claimant Commitments will provide many more sanctions.
26 July 2014

I've been looking around the web for information regarding the Claimant Commitment that I have to sign at my next fortnightly signing and it really is just a case of causing more upset for the unemployed in a bid to encourage them to get off benefits. Next week, after I have signed up to the Claimant Commitment I will be given a booklet in which I have to write in what steps I am going to make in the next two weeks to find work. Then I have to write in the booklet the actual steps I took. If those two statements don't tally I could find myself classed as someone who didn't meet his agreed targets and a sanction doubt could be my reward. It appears that the claimant and the advisor have to agree what steps would have to be taken over the next fortnight but the power is really in the hands of the advisor. We can all guess what steps might be suggested such as handing out CV's and registering with various websites. The advisor could also suggest work experience or volunteering and the old favourite, yes you guessed it, altering my CV. I was given some photocopies at my last signing to give me an idea of what to expect. At the end of the sample copies I was given was a bit regarding Work Search Reviews. It appears that I could be called in everyday for one of these but as I look online a number of times everyday it would be pointless. Claimant Commitments could easily create many more sanctions as a simple mistake written down could be used to put forward a doubt. It will be interesting to see what happens at my next fortnightly signing.
