Looking back on the Jobsfair. 11 June 2014 I've now had several hours to think about the Jobsfair held in the Cardiff City Hall today. I remember looking around the large ground floor room and seeing a load of tables that had been positioned around the sides of the room leaving the centre empty and a life size cut out of a soldier at the Armed Forces table. The job vacancies that had been posted on the job boards positioned at various locations in the room were like old friends. I see the same jobs on UJM everyday. This afternoon I applied online for an Admin Assistant vacancy that is on the Cardiff Council website and the closing date is approaching. As I registered with the Council a few years ago, most of the online application is ready and all I have to do is fill in the important part regarding why I'm the right person for the job. I have never been interviewed for any job that I have applied for with the Council, even the vacancies that were paid for through funds from Europe specifically for someone who is unemployed and surely with my lengthy absence from employment they should have at least interviewed me. This particular Admin Assistant vacancy is open to anyone and involves helping unemployed people. The job specification suggests that a driving licence would be useful but not essential and usually that means they will employ someone who has a driving licence so that rules me out. Again, I will look on the bright side and accept that it makes up my efforts for the week. I was a bit concerned last week when I couldn't access the Council website and it was stating that my browser was out of date but I looked around the web for old links onto the Council website and found one that I bookmarked and lucky for me I was able to apply at home rather than make a trip to the local library. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
