I have just come back from attending the Jobsfair at Cardiff City Hall. On the previous occasion I could see some activity outside and plenty of people inside but today it was like going into an empty room. I arrived at the entrance to Cardiff City Hall and I saw a poster stating that a Jobsfair was taking place today. I pushed open the door and then had to push open another door before I saw a number of people who looked more like they were running the Jobsfair rather than being unemployed themselves.I walked straight down to the room at the end of the ground floor and a number of tables were in place around the sides of the room. A few job boards were up and I went over to them and had a look at the vacancies. In the previous Jobsfair, I remember tables in the middle of the room but on this occasion it was a large empty space. I decided to leave the room and go upstairs. I turned around at the top of the stairs and saw hundreds of cups and saucers on a large table where a few women were standing. Maybe I should have asked if they were going to offer the unemployed refreshment but I thought they would probably use paper cups if they were going to be used for us. It was a warm day in Cardiff and I feel that it wasn't really worth making the effort to attend but at least I can write it up in my activity log on UJM. One day in the future I hope they hold a Jobsfair for small companies that have real jobs to offer and that would achieve a high attendance and real results.
