At least it keeps the vacancy numbers up.
29 May 2014

I try to find a job to apply for on a daily basis. It hasn't been that easy recently to find suitable jobs to apply for. When I say suitable I mean jobs that I can apply for that I could reasonably say at an interview that I could do. It would be pointless applying for a job as an electrician, gas fitter, driver or any other job where I don't have the qualifications that are required. Today I logged into my UJM account to find that 471 new vacancies had been posted that are within 20 miles of Cardiff. Of course we all know many of these don't exist and on the first page of 25, 19 of them were posted by Drivers Direct advertising for HGV I drivers. They all had different reference numbers and also different locations throughout South Wales. If these are genuine jobs then HGV drivers might be able to demand great wages if we go down the supply and demand route. Sadly, most of us know that it's just another type of employment agency that wants CV's and drivers willing to do temporary contracts. I hope some of those 19 posted vacancies are full time and permanent but it's a good example of how many agencies have been posting jobs on UJM and how false the job vacancy total is. I'm sure the government will keep telling us how many jobs are waiting to be filled but we know the truth.
