When I was told the last time I signed at the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff that I wouldn't have to sign for four weeks because of something to do with training for the 18-24yr olds I still thought that I had better keep up my jobsearch and record it on my UJM account as I am sure that they can monitor it regardless of consent. Although I have to apply for a minimum of two jobs a week I have in fact applied for four jobs in that period. Today I went into my UJM account to do some jobsearch and it appears that 240 new jobs were posted today within a 20 mile range from Cardiff. Of course it is unlikely that they are all new jobs posted on a saturday before a bank holiday and most of them were from CV Library and Reed. I clicked on a number of these job vacancies that had officially been posted today and most of them had original posting dates going back four or five days. One vacancy posted on CV Library that I looked at didn't have a posting date but suggested that it was a new vacancy and someone might actually be working today posting vacancies onto the government website run by Monster. A few weeks ago quite a number of vacancies were taken off the website and the total within 20 miles of Cardiff went from over 10k to around 9k. Now it is on the 11k mark and rising. It appears that they are back to reposting old vacancies to boost the totals and give the unemployed something to look at if they are forced to spend hours looking at job vacancies. We all know that if you spend several hours looking online then the next day the unemployed would only have a few jobs to look at so they pile on these old vacancies to give people something to do. Charles St Jobcentre only has six computers available for jobsearch so if people are called in for six hours a day each then they obviously could only cope with six unemployed people. If the unemployed are given an option of daily Jobcentre attendance or workfare then it will be interesting to see how they cope if we all choose to attend the Jobcentre. The bus fare costs would make it very costly and even though I walk to the Jobcentre I would be tempted to catch a bus and claim bus fares just because I'm tired of the way we the unemployed are treated just because we are unemployed. I have completed every course that I have been sent on over the years and two years on the Work Programme with Working Links and they couldn't find me one interview in all that time. We hear time and time again that many jobs are going unfilled but this government doesn't want to prove if that is true or not. I personally believe that if an employer contacts a Jobcentre with a vacancy, for example for an Administrator then someone should be able to look on a database and find people who sign at that Jobcentre who are looking for similar work and put them forward. Feedback could be asked for from employers but sadly as we all know many of these so called vacancies are just old job vacancies that are being reposted just to keep the numbers up. In the past I signed up for the Jobcentres job interview guarantee scheme but after two years I had only received a couple of application forms for jobs in the post. I've completed a number of work placements, some that lasted for five weeks but no job was available. Work experience where no one is willing to pay you is never as good as actual paid employment. I remember the days when people in government would suggest that the New Deal schemes were good as they made people attend five days a week for thirteen weeks and got them used to the hours of work. Apart from some youngsters the vast majority of the unemployed who had to attend those courses had no problem with timekeeping and most of the time were early. A phrase that I find offensive has been used by some government ministers and especially by David Cameron recently and that is "the politics of envy." Most of us don't complain about people who were born into wealthy families but for some reason the people who have most of the wealth want to crush the people who have nothing. This image that people have of the unemployed enjoying a great life is all spin apart from a very small minority that take advantage of a system. It's important to keep up the jobsearch and update online records to show that we have actually been online. Don't give anyone the chance to question your efforts.
