More Work Programme Support
16 January 2014

I went along to the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff today for the first time in four weeks as I didn't have to sign two weeks ago. I knew that I would be seeing my new personal advisor for the second time. I didn't have any confidence in him from our first meeting as he appeared to be only interested in why I had not had any interviews for jobs recently. The three security guards next to the entrance on the ground floor didn't bother to ask me anything so I just walked straight to the door leading to the first floor where I gave my signing card to one of the two security guards on reception who then checked his list. He pointed in the direction of Steves desk. Eventually Steve called me and the first thing he asked was whether I had been to any interviews in the last four weeks. Of course I said no and it was unlikely over the christmas period. He then reminded me of the British Gas Workclub that I have to attend next week and he also gave me a letter informing me of an appointment to see him two days after the Workclub to discuss it. It appears that the Workclub is mainly to do with giving an insight into the Jobs that will be advertised in the next couple of weeks by British Gas. I guess it will also involve more general things like interviews. As I was talking to Steve he said that I keep using the word "BUT". This was obviously a way of telling me that he thought I was making excuses for everything but in fact I wasn't. He clearly didn't want to listen to any response that didn't agree with him. We did get around for a moment to the computer courses that I have completed over the years. Although I did complete ECDL, he mentioned that it was created to give people a certain level of computer skills. I did use the "BUT" word only to inform him that ECDL is based on remembering answers to questions and anyone could pass it without being able to produce a spreadsheet or database or in fact any kind of document. Steve then allowed me to complete my fortnightly signing. Soon it will be seven months completed on the so called six month Post Work Programme Support. It does seem odd that I would be kept on this and I'm beginning to wonder whether it is because of the manager of the department Jenny Harking. I have mentioned on here before how she tried to get my benefit stopped when she was a claimant advisor many years ago. I remember walking in to sign one day to be told that my benefit had been stopped and it had appeared that an employer had sent in a copy of an application form that I had completed and that is usually followed up by suspension of benefits. I asked for copies of all documents so that I could start my appeal and I guess mistakenly a kindly member of staff also gave me a fax that was vital to my case. In short, within the week my benefit had been allowed. The fax was from Companies House stating here is the application you requested. The fax was sent to a jobcentre and the guy at the jobcentre then forwarded it to Jenny Harking stating that he was forwarding the application form that she had requested earlier. I phoned up Companies House at the time and I was told that no one complained about my application form and a guy named Dave Roll from the Jobcentre had mentioned my name and requested it.It was illegal then to request an application form but she was using it to rubber stamp suspension of benefits. I still have a copy of that fax and I am wondering whether I could take legal action myself although a number of years have gone by. Imagine how many people had their benefits unfairly stopped by using illegal means. I will report on here what happens on the British Gas Workshop.
