They are making it up as they go along 19 December 2013 Today I fully expected to be told that my six months on the Post Work Programme scheme had come to an end but it appears that is not the case. The first floor at Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff was busy today and eventually my name was called by a man called Steve. He introduced himself as my new advisor and mentioned that he had many years experience. He asked for a few details that were already on his computer and after looking at my list of jobs that I had applied for asked me how long was it since I last had an interview. It was some time ago and asked if Working Links had asked about the time since I last had an interview. I did interrupt him a couple of times in my eagerness to find out what he was really getting at. This guy Steve suggested that maybe my CV needed changing but as I have had my CV changed by almost every provider in Cardiff at some time and most of them claiming many years of experience I didn't accept the point he was trying to make. I tried to explain to him that every job you apply for might only have five or six interview spaces and if you are one of dozens applying then that's how it is. It seemed ridiculous to me that he would even suggest changing my CV if it got me that particular interview in the first place. The way he came across didn't give me confidence in him and although he was polite I found myself not trusting him. Anyone who has looked at my postings on this site know that I have on a number of occasions given a number of Jobcentreplus staff praise for the professional and decent way they have treated me but Steve isn't on that list although he was polite enough, something was missing in the way he came across. He mentioned that it was his job to help me into employment and he put up a list of events in Cardiff and suggested that I should attend a British Gas Workclub for one day in January which I agreed I would attend. He then allowed me to complete my fortnightly signing although he didn't confirm it on the computer but when I asked he said he was about to do it so hopefully he will. According to what I saw on the government website my payment should be a day early on monday 23rd december but it appears Steve didn't know and said it would be a normal payday. I hope he is wrong about that and I guess he is. He then gave me a leaflet stating that I don't have to sign in two weeks time and that he will probably see me in four weeks time when I am due to sign. That will be five days before the one day event at British Gas so he can probably remind me. I told Steve that I like to know exactly where I stand so I mentioned that this week completes six months on the Post Work Programme course at the Jobcentre and shouldn't I now be signing back on the ground floor. It appears that the very experienced Steve of many years working for Jobcentreplus didn't know so I asked for any literature regarding the Post Work Programme course but it appears that he didn't have any. That means that when I see Steve in four weeks time I will have completed almost seven months on the intensive six month Post Work Programme course. Something doesn't make sense when an advisor doesn't even know the regulations regarding a course that he is an advisor on. In fact he didn't even bother to make an effort to ask another advisor and just said that he would see me next time I sign in four weeks time. I'm left wondering whether the management on the first floor at Charles St Jobcentre are deliberately making their advisors mislead claimants or whether in fact Steve doesn't know his arse from his elbow. I will probably find out in four weeks time after I have completed seven months on the Post Work Programme course. I did get the impression that he thought he was talking to a fool and I don't have any respect for people who think they can play games with peoples lives. I respect the truth and if the claimant needs information regarding how they stand then any decent advisor would at least try and find out for them. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
