Another Jobsfair, another waste of time.
18 September 2013

I went along to the Jobsfair held at the City Hall in Cardiff today and for the first time that I can remember no one took our names as we entered. Usually they won't let you in until you have given your name so no one officially knows who turned up. The same old stalls were in place, Cardiffbus, British Gas,Arriva and of course no Jobsfair would be complete without the Army. I mentioned in my previous comments that I had been put forward for the Royal Mail christmas jobs by my advisor at the Jobcentre and have been assured that they are not subject to zero hour contracts. My windows98 computer isn't able to let me complete the online application so I had to go to the enterprise centre in City Road where I completed and submitted the application. I needed to print the summary to take to the interview at Alexandra House Jobcentre on thursday but it only printed off two pages out of the four. Today, before I went to the Jobsfair I went along to the enterprise centre to get a printout of all four pages but the shutter was down. A sign on the window said that they were closed on 18th September for auditing purposes. This now means that I will have to make a trip to the enterprise centre tomorrow to obtain my printed summary and then a couple of hours later go on my forty five to fifty minute walk to Alexandra House in the forecast pouring rain. While I was out today my advisor left a message on my phone informing me of what I have to take to the appointment tomorrow. Besides the printout of the application, a copy of my birth certificate, utility bill,my benefit card or recent letter from the Jobcentre and two passport photos. I think I have a photo that was taken in 2000 in a drawer somewhere and they are going to have to settle for that as I don't have the money to pay for any photo from a booth. All this for a temporary christmas job at the Royal Mail sorting post. Yesterday when I went along to the enterprise centre in City Road I had to complete a registration document just to be able to use their computers. I had to give my address and even date of birth just so I could use a computer and it even included a start date as if I was starting a course. If microsoft had kept updating old operating systems I would only have had to go along for a printout. I will put on here what happens at my interview for the Royal Mail christmas jobs.
