You know what it's like, you have been looking for jobs online for a couple of hours and can't find one to apply for so anything will do to at least have something to apply for. I saw a job vacancy on the government website for a shelf stacker and I clicked on the link and was just about to apply when I noticed this statement "Must have experience". If you can tie up your own shoelaces you should be able to learn how to stack a shelf in the blink of an eye. As I don't have shelf stacking experience I decided not to apply but lucky for me I found an administrator vacancy to apply for. The unemployed are set targets to achieve every week and sometimes no matter how hard you try the jobs are not around unless you want to waste the time of employers by applying for jobs that state certain experience or qualifications are required that you don't have. Sadly that is the way things will go as the risk of getting a sanction will inevitably lead to employers receiving applications from people who don't match the employers needs. In the old days a little training would be given and realistically I think I would be okay as a shelf stacker. It's odd to think that someone who is hiring people really believes that experience is essential for such a basic job when a few minutes of explaining how they wanted the shelves to be stacked would be enough. Of course these days we are supposed to apply for any job that we can do. Usually I apply for administrator vacancies but when they dry up I have to look around for anything to apply for. The other day I applied for an ebay administrator vacancy in Newport. The job description stated that the work was basically describing items for sale. I am approaching my late 50's and the reality is that whatever job I apply for I won't get. People over 50 who apply for run of the mill jobs as I do have far less chance of finding a job compared to the over 50's who are applying for skilled jobs or high management positions. I think that I might apply for that shelf stacker vacancy and then ask for some feedback. At least it will make up one of my activities for the week.
