Just sit back and take it all in again. 09 August 2013
Last week when I attended my second appointment with my personal advisor at the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff I was given a direction to attend a session on friday 9th August to discuss CV's. I mentioned this last week on this very website. During that appointment I was originally given a direction to attend a session on thursday 8th August on Barriers to Employment. My advisor gave me a paper copy of this direction and then after looking on her computer told me that it had been cancelled. She asked me what sessions I had attended so far although it was probably on my computer record and I told her that I had attended the session on interviews and a session on voluntary work. I was then given a paper copy of a direction to attend this session on friday 9th August on CV's.
I went along to Charles St Jobcentre today to attend this session on CV's and ten of us were led into a room. We all sat down and the woman taking the session asked if we were all aware that the session was on interviews. I was the only one who thought it was on CV's and told her that I had attended this session on interviews recently. She said that I could go if I wanted to but I told her that I have no trust in my advisor and so I stayed as the thought of anything being made of me walking out on a session that is under a jobseekers direction might give them something to cause me future trouble.
The previous session on interviews lasted forty five minutes but this particular session lasted one and a quarter hours. Three fairly young guys were keen on giving their experiences and answered many of the questions posed by the woman taking the session with what was almost like enthusiasm. I couldn't help smile a bit as it reminded me of the many occasions on the New Deals I have had to attend in the past when I showed similar enthusiasm but believe me it eventually fades when you attend these sessions as many times that I have over the years. The one thing that I'm proud of is that under no circumstances would I disrupt a session as someone in the group might not have the knowledge that is being handed out and might in fact benefit.
I was reading a statement on a government website regarding jobseekers directions and it stated that the advisor should only use a direction in regards to sessions if they genuinely believe it would benefit the claimant. As I have attended these sessions so many times with different providers and even the Jobcentre in the past it doesn't make sense that my advisor could possibly believe that they would be of any benefit to me.
Jobcentreplus of course can't just let me sign every fortnight for six months and I accept that I will probably have to attend every session they have available. I will go along to each one and report back on here how they went.
