Who wants to be a volunteer?
19 July 2013
I went along to Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff (2nd floor) to attend the compulsory Voluntary Work session. Eleven of us were taken to a room where we sat through a session about voluntary work given by a young man named Luke. He was representing VCS. It appears that he had been volunteering and eventually got a job with them. He talked about a couple of people who felt that their lives had been changed for the better by volunteering and even showed us the company website. It appears that they have over 400 different things that we could volunteer for. Ranging from basic admin to adopting a dog for six months for a charity for the blind. No one appeared to be too keen but some asked a few questions. Luke also mentioned that some charities inform their volunteers first about any job vacancies they have and so they should. The session lasted around half an hour and then we all left. I guess they will be waiting just as I am to find out what the next session will be about.
