Time to let the world know about the bullying in Jobcentres. 15 July 2013
I am normally a compliant kind of person and anyone who has gone through my comments regarding my Work Programme experiences at Working Links will know that I speak out regarding bad treatment but on the whole I go along with most things.
I have met many people over the years while attending schemes for the unemployed and many of those people had little confidence and were depressed. Of course some people were playing the system but the majority are not. I have seen people sipping vodka from water bottles as a way of coping while on New Deal. When they didn't have the vodka they were shaking like crazy. Many of these people who have faced all kinds of personal hardship over the years will eventually end up before an advisor in the Jobcentre after they complete two years on the Work Programme. If they have to face bullying because the rest of us can't be bothered to at least make an effort to complain then we will also be partly responsible as to say nothing should never be an option when people are clearly being wronged. I'm not talking about risking your benefit entitlement but just an email to a government body or internet site to inform people of what Jobcentres are using bullying techniques and refusing people their rights. I have done my little bit by putting my experiences on here and also emailing the contact address for the DWP. I have also emailed the local press regarding Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff and also looking into Ombudsman and other complaint procedures besides many websites.
I really am not bothered about giving access to my UJM account but being told that my personal advisor would not take paper copies and would refer me to a decision maker with a possible sanction is taking away a right that I have and as a public servant she should be informing and respecting my right to take whatever option I prefer. The fact that another member of staff nodded in agreement with her also made me realise that it is clearly management policy to bully as these people wouldn't risk their jobs by openly bullying without the protection of a supporting manager. I have my appointment on thursday to complete my fortnightly signing with my advisor or it appears the manager who tried to rig my benefit being stopped some years ago. I will report back on here how it went and also on friday I have a session on voluntary work although I believe working for nothing for charities that are more interested in making money these days isn't really a good idea. The amount of money directors of charities earn takes up a hell of a lot of donations.
