Life can be unfair
13 April 2013
I was at the Charles St Jobcentre in Cardiff on thursday for my fortnightly signing and everything went smoothly. I handed in my list of eight jobs applied for and it was signed with no comments. My jobseekers agreement states that I have to apply for at least two jobs a week but I always try to apply for as many as I can find. Just before my name was called I overheard a conversation between a middle aged claimant and a member of the jobcentre staff. The claimant handed over his list of jobs applied for and he was told that according to his jobseekers agreement he must apply for at least fourteen jobs but he only had eight on his list. I felt sorry for the guy as finding fourteen jobs that fit your experience and ability isn't easy every fortnight and this particular fortnight did include the easter bank holidays. At least he was allowed to sign and hopefully will receive his benefit on tuesday. I was asked by the lady who signed me if I had been to Working Links recently and told her that I had an appointment with them at 10am that day. I was in Working Links on thursday for about twenty five minutes in total and was given some information on three vacancies to apply for. My next appointment is for a fortnights time and I think having my fortnightly signing and Working Links appointments within forty five minutes of each other on the same day is a good thing. I guess that I am lucky that both buildings are fairly near each other and many other people are not so fortunate.
