Universal Jobmatch is nonsense 05 April 2013
I signed up for Universal Jobmatch some time ago now although I still take into the Jobcentre a paper list of the jobs I have applied for. Anyone who has signed up knows that they email you to give you a link to recommended jobs and if no action is taken an alert message is left on your home page until you have taken the action. I noticed that on the activity page everytime you click on a job vacancy from the recommended list it puts a note to show you have looked at a vacancy. If for example you click on twenty jobs and have a look you will find a list of twenty lines saying "Viewed". That suggests that if you look at the list of jobs but never actually click on any of them then it will look like no action has been taken so maybe it's best to look at the jobs just to show some effort even if you have applied for the jobs before. Most of the recommended list are jobs that have been posted almost two months ago that I have seen many times and have applied in the past for most of them.
It's almost like a silly game that we have to play to keep the Jobcentre happy even though it wastes our time and we could spend that time looking at the new jobs that have been posted. The lists are also jumbled up so you could start with a recently posted vacancy, then a couple of pages of jobs a month or two old and then suddenly find a vacancy in the list that was posted yesterday. I have managed to find and apply for three jobs since easter so it hasn't been too bad for me but this fiasco of having to click on old jobs just to make sure my efforts have at least been noticed is time I could spend looking on other websites for real vacancies.
Looking on the bright side, my next Working Links appointment is on thursday about forty five minutes after I have to attend the Jobcentre for my fortnightly signing and as the two venues are only about five minutes walk from each other that suits me fine and saves me a trip.
