The Welsh Assembly is going to absorb the cost of the council tax and that means the unemployed in Wales won't have to pay any council tax this year. That's good to hear and let's hope it continues next year. When Mrs Thatcher introduced the Poll Tax it was trialled in a few places before it eventually went national and eventually the riots ended it. One of those places was Wales and I remember having to pay it for twelve months. The unemployed were given no extra towards paying it but no one cared until everyone had to pay it and suddenly riots and condemnation. I guess it's like everything else, until someone suffers the same fate they will be more than happy to let others suffer. The same can be said of Workfare, many who are in work are more than happy to see people forced to work for nothing but if they ever become unemployed they will see what it is really like being on the receiving end. Life isn't easy living on basic benefits especially for single people. It's just a case of survival and doing the best you can with the few resources available to you.
