Teamwork deserving of a yellow card 14 February 2013 I arrived at Charles St Jobcentre this morning for my fortnightly signing and the lady who usually sees me called my name. I signed as usual and she signed and dated my page of jobs applied for so hopefully my benefit will go through as normal. I asked why I wasn't contacted regarding my appointment to see an advisor and the lady said that she had been off for a couple of days and she had not dealt with it. She apologised but I think she is taking one for the team as she appears too efficient to have made such a mistake. When she originally gave me the appointment time to see my personal advisor she made a note of it on my claim and surely she would have sorted out the appointment before she went home that day. When she became aware of the appointment not being set up why didn't she have someone phone me or send me a letter to inform me of the situation. She said that if I had turned up at 4pm today then everything would have been okay and I would have been able to sign as she had made a note on my claim but that still would have left me having to explain to a security guard and then to someone on reception. I did mention to her that it was wrong of my advisor to question my availability for work as she had only seen me to try and bully me to register for Universal Jobmatch and I have signed up for it and always apply for plenty of vacancies. The lady at the desk apologised and said it was her fault but I think she was just trying to deflect my criticism away from my so called personal advisor. No mention was made of setting up another appointment with my advisor but if they do I will look forward to asking her a few questions. Of course you can only receive a sanction I understand if your claim is referred to a decision maker, they will contact you for your side of the case by a certain date and then will decide on whether a sanction should be imposed. I shouldn't really have any problems as I tend to go along with most things and apply for many jobs. I also never miss appointments, I'm on the work programme and have also registered for Universal Jobmatch. What I have not done so far is give blood but I wouldn't put it passed them to bleed me dry. | ![]() |
