Universal Jobmatch here I come 14 January 2013
I went to the Charles St Jobcentre for my appointment with my so called personal advisor who I met for the first time today. Although she said it was only to see how my progress on the Work Programme was going it was clear that it really was about me signing up for Universal Jobmatch. The woman altered my agreement with such things as looking on the monster website at least seven times a week, phoning up two employers a week, applying for at least three jobs a week and informing me that I will have to produce evidence of my job applications by producing copies of my applications. As I don't have a printer she said I could use a local enterprise office for free to obtain copies. It appears that it may be possible to copy and paste them onto the Universal Jobmatch website but I have not tried it yet. I did create a new email address specifically for the site and registered for Universal Jobmatch and obtained the user ID they provide in the form of a twelve digit number. I didn't allow the Jobcentre to look at my details but if I don't then copy and pasting evidence onto the site would be pointless as they would want to see the proof and that would mean producing hard copies. I was also told that I must look for work that may take up to 90 minutes to travel to and it all looks like they are trying to find a number of ways to justify giving people sanctions. Even the reasons on the website for not applying for a job are phrased in a way to trap you. The best way to end this nonsense is probably for everyone who is unemployed to apply for every job that is put forward regardless of lack of experience and watch the employers get sick and tired of obtaining applications from people who clearly don't have the required qualifications or experience. It would be funny if the employers all deserted the monster website for better sites such as totaljobs. I was even told that people who look on the job points at the Jobcentre won't be given the information for job vacancies on the phone unless they have registered for Universal Jobmatch. Sadly not allowing cookies on the site means you can't use it for applying for jobs although some jobs seem to have the details freely available. I'm also supposed to write to employers but this can be in the form of an email rather than an actual letter. They are clearly trying to put hurdles in the way of people to make it simpler and less bothersome to just allow them to access your Universal Jobmatch account. I did look on the terms and conditions that monster provide on the website and they take no responsibility for any mistakes or loss of data. It appears it is up to the individual if he or she puts data on the website which seems unfair as we are being almost forced to comply.
I then went on to my appointment at Working Links and the consultant mentioned that as I had been on the Work Programme for eighteen months my two years will be up in june and he is going to see me next time to discuss any help that I feel they can give me. An actual job interview or work trial with a real job at the end of it would be nice but they have not managed that in over 18 months so I'm not holding my breath.
By the way my free email account that I created today was a ymail account from yahoo and it was nice and quick to create. I will delete my main email address from the CV I put online to avoid it receiving spam and I might also take off my full address and just leave the city and of course delete my phone number just in case of some idiot trying to cause me trouble as we know quite a few people would love to upset innocent people with silly phone calls and nasty emails. I will see if my efforts are enough when I attend the Jobcentre on thursday for my fortnightly signing.
