Might be a coincidence 05 January 2013
On wednesday I went to Working Links for my appointment and was given a letter informing me of my next appointment on monday 14th january. As I sign every fortnight on a thursday I just accepted it. The next day I went to the Jobcentre to sign and Universal Jobmatch was mentioned to me and I was told to register by the next time I sign in a fortnight. I did decline to give my email address and the woman typed a few details into the computer. Today I received a letter from the Jobcentre that was sent on the day I attended the Jobcentre to sign informing me that I have an appointment at the Jobcentre to see a personal adviser on monday 14th january at exactly the same time as my Working Links appointment. What a coincidence that both appointments are on the same day and time and if you miss an appointment you are subject to sanctions. I will of course telephone Working Links on monday and try to arrange a later time or date for my appointment. I have a feeling that after I declined to give my email address to the woman signing me on thursday, the information she typed in was taken up by a member of the back room staff and they decided to call me in a few days before my next signing to probably give me a directive to register with Universal Jobmatch or maybe fill in some kind of form. Since I started on the Work Programme over 18 months ago I have not seen anyone at the Jobcentre apart from fortnightly signings so they could roll up any member of staff and call them my personal adviser on the due date. In the past if they wanted to see you they would arrange a time on the date you are due to complete your fortnightly signing. The other reason they might be calling me in is to sign a new jobseekers agreement that will probably include Universal Jobmatch. I won't tick the box allowing them access to any account I have to open and will not allow cookies from the monster website. It may only be a token resistance but a gesture is better than nothing. I will report back on here how the Jobcentre appointment goes as it might help anyone facing the same situation.
