Three months before misery for many 30 December 2012
Christmas is over and soon it will be april 2013 and the start of the benefit cuts. Although the government are making the cuts the local councils have to decide who is going to pay the cost. In Cardiff it looks likely that the unemployed will pay a percentage of their council tax and the extra bedroom tax is the real cruel tax on unemployed people with an extra bedroom. To suddenly go from £71 a week to £60 a week after those two payments will be hard to take and I am glad I don't have an extra bedroom. Of course my figures are based on a housing benefit of around £70 a week and if the rent is higher then it will be an even worse situation for the person with an extra bedroom as loss of housing benefit for one extra bedroom is going to be around 14%. Only three months before the real bad times start for many unless these cuts can be postponed. Until then just like everyone else on jobseekers allowance I will have to endure Universal Jobmatch. I am due to sign at the Jobcentre later this week and as Universal Jobmatch was mentioned to me last time I attended I might find myself having to register. Of course if I do register I will be blocking cookies from their website and I did read a useful article online about using a proxy server when using the governments jobsearch website and I won't tick the box that allows them to snoop on me. I make plenty of job applications and if they want to call me in to the jobcentre everyday then I don't mind as I only live approximately 25 minutes walk from the jobcentre.
