I attended an appointment today at Working Links and the discussion mainly involved looking on various websites. I mentioned the Universal Jobmatch being launched by the Jobcentre and was basically told by the consultant that he would not be discussing that and went back to looking at websites that had the odd job vacancy that I could apply for. I just mentioned that if people didn't have computers and the library would not provide the individual with computer access for 35 hours a week then wouldn't Working Links be responsible to provide computer access for all of its clients. Of course they couldn't provide the access but the reply I got was that it was a problem for the Jobcentre and the individual rather than the provider of the work programme. As Working Links are taking a fee for each of us on the work programme surely they should have a responsibility to provide us with access to computers and everything else we require to meet the demands of any Jobcentre directive. The consultant did look a little surprised when I told him that I did not receive any form from the Jobcentre regarding Universal Jobmatch when I signed last week but I do expect to receive it next time I sign. At least he did say that my appointments will match my signing days again in the near future. It definitely looks busier than usual at Working Links and more staff on view.
