We have all experienced waiting to sign at the Jobcentre but yesterday it seemed like the place was over staffed and some just sitting at desks doing nothing. I arrived five minutes early for my fortnightly signing time and noticed that the desk where I usually sign was unattended and the guy who signs me wasn't around. At the other desks I noticed that after people signed they were given a form and told to bring it back in two weeks when they sign and I can only think that it relates to Universal Jobmatch registering but I could be wrong. Eventually a lady went to the desk where I usually sign and called my name about seven or eight minutes after my signing time. I showed her my Jobcentre booklet and jobsearch form and she asked me if I had any form of identification. I had never been asked for that during my time signing on and she said as she had never met me before to bring some form of identification in next time I sign. I don't know what's happened to the guy who usually sits at that desk but it would suggest that she expects to be doing that job when I am due to sign in two weeks time. After I signed she didn't hand me a form like the people were being given at the other desks. I will take in a utility bill just in case she is at that desk in two weeks time.
