Tougher sanctions
16 October 2012

I went to Charles St Jobcentre for my fortnightly signing last thursday and was given the letter I guess everyone is going to receive regarding jobsearch. I also received the letter regarding tougher sanctions that start from the 22nd October. I don't support any political party and although the Conservatives are pushing the Work Programme, Labour were starting to get tough with the unemployed when they were in power. The one thing I find amazing is how the two most powerful men in government can openly encourage hatred of people on benefits. Last week at the Conservative conference David Cameron and George Osborne both made statements regarding people on benefits suggesting that many are better off than people in work. Of course anyone who is in work is far better off than a person on benefits even if they are on the minimum wage. They are trying to use statistics to encourage people to support benefit cuts. For example, if they are going to use the housing benefit someone might receive in a high rental area compared to someone who is working and living in a low rental area then the housing benefit received will mean that the unemployed person has received more but it doesn't end up in the pocket of the person on benefit. The person in work will still be much better off in cash terms than the person on benefits in a like for like comparison. Those people at the conference are clearly loyal conservatives who will stand and cheer even when given false information or at the very least information intended to deceive. If only they would think before they applaud because they must be more intelligent than they appear surely.
