Nice day for a walk 10 October 2012
I walked to Working Links today for my appointment this morning. After a little wait I spoke to my consultant and was given a job vacancy to look at. I applied for it online just before I updated this website. Not many people were in attendance but then again it was only 9am. Definitely more staff than before and they seemed happy. If the Work Programme does end and the staff running these courses are made redundant it will be interesting to find out how many can find themselves employment. They keep handing out the basic lines regarding CV's and cover letters and hold courses for interview techniques so they should find it easy to find employment but I feel at least half of the staff would struggle to find employment. Although the main offices are on the 2nd floor of Golate House, Working Links are also using offices on the 1st floor. I guess that I should be glad that I'm only having to attend once a fortnight for now after attending once a week for many months. No one knows what the future will bring but looking between the lines the unemployed are going to lose the only thing that they have left and that is the free time unemployment brings. Enjoy the time you have left before it's taken away from you. I apply for many jobs and the longer you are unemployed the less hope you have. Universal credit may very well conceal a lot of hurt that will be felt by decent honest people who just happen to be unemployed. This morning David Cameron said that he was the son of a Stockbroker, pity he wasn't the son of a bin man, then maybe a little more compassion might be shown.
