A week of freedom 05 September 2012
When I attended last week I was told that I would be contacted to inform me of my next appointment as they were moving a few computers around but I phoned up on tuesday morning instead of just waiting for them to contact me. I don't have much confidence in them and want to avoid being accused again of missing an appointment of which I was not informed of. That happened quite a while ago since I started with Working Links so I'm not taking any chances. I was told to come in next week on wednesday although I was ready to go in on tuesday if the consultant had said so.
When next wednesday comes around it would mean that 15 days would have gone by between those appointments so maybe a fortnightly appointment might occur in the future but knowing my bad luck I will be back to weekly attending. I'm not against them parking me and only seeing me occasionally as I do plenty of jobsearch at home and it is clear they are not going to find me a job or sadly obtain me any interviews. The jobcentres in the past had job interview guarantee schemes that didn't seem to work either and the only way Working Links could help me is by phoning up employers who have real jobs on offer and obtaining an interview or a work trial for me. I have done my share of work placements and training courses. When the time comes and a form of workfare is introduced where the unemployed will be forced to work for benefits it will become a very frightening time for people in work. They will live in fear of becoming unemployed and will have to do whatever the employer tells them to do and pay rises could be held back with people too scared to speak out. Let's hope that doesn't become reality but as Labour were putting in plans to force the unemployed to work for nothing it is hard to see any alternative when the people in power have similar intentions.
