Reasons are always recorded
18 July 2012
During my Tuesday appointment at Working Links in Cardiff I became aware of yet another person phoning in to give a reason why they could not attend an appointment and as we all know those reasons are recorded on their computer records. If a person arrives very late then they could be classed as missing the appointment and the jobcentre informed. If you can afford to live without benefits for a while and can cope with a sanction then I guess you can try and rock the system but of course the only person who will potentially lose out is yourself. I am now having to attend once a week after attending twice a week for a few months. I apply for plenty of jobs and maybe the fact that I make an effort has had some beneficial results. I did think initially that the provider would make an effort and cold call employers on my behalf and somehow obtain an interview for a job or two but that has not happened. I do get the odd suggestion of a vacancy or a website to look at but the reality is that if I find a job it is going to be by my own efforts. The office was quite full this week as a number were waiting for inductions. One guy did receive a mobile phone with ten pound credit on it. I didn't ask any questions as to why although I was tempted to ask if Working Links would pay my phone bill for me but I resisted the temptation. I was told that the Civil Service had over twenty jobs going in South Wales so I had a look and will apply. They are for a fixed period of six months and I will go through the process of applying online and waiting for the rejection. I must not say such things, I must stay positive and wait for the interview date and job offer.
