Beware of what you say 18 June 2012
When I attended Working Links last thursday I became aware that quite a few people don't realise that when they complete a form at one of these work programme providers that the information they give will be used in some way. Those forms they ask you to complete are for a reason, it might just be so they can contact employers if you find employment or give them a reason to put you on various courses. The first thing we do is attend an induction and that leads to completing a questionnaire which will ask us to rate from 1 to 5 our maths skills, computer literacy, CV's etc. If we feel that we don't need help and put a tick in the 5 box then we will probably get less courses than someone who puts in a lesser figure which will indicate that a person needs help in some way. Some of us might feel that if we put a 5 in all boxes then it will look as if we think we are perfect so we might put a couple of 4s just to make it look like we are not making ourselves look big headed. Of course those 4s now give them a reason to suggest that we might need help in those areas and as we have completed the questionnaire ourselves it is difficult to refuse. I'm sure I will have to complete a course or two in the next 18 months or so as they probably won't leave me just turning up twice a week to do jobsearch if I don't find employment. It's very important to keep applying for jobs and making sure the booklet you show to the jobcentre every fortnight has at least six entries that include job applications and you could include attending the work programme. Just listing the old phrase "no suitable vacancies" is never enough.
