The office was quite full today.
24 April 2012
I attended this morning for my appointment at 9am and by 10am quite a few people were waiting to be seen. I was on one of the computers doing jobsearch and noticed that most of the newcomers were in a happy state. I guess they will be even more happier if it continues to be not more than two visits a week. I have kept my ears open and got the impression from comments being made by the unemployed that some people are getting away with just one visit a fortnight. It looks like the people who are less likely to get a job are being given a far easier time of it than the rest of us. Many of those people might actually want help but I would swap with them gladly. I walk to the Working Links office in Cardiff to do jobsearch that I could do at home. Although I am supposed to be attending twice a week for six weeks on a sort of course based on contacting employers and asking about vacancies I could do all that with a fortnightly appointment. I guess as I don't claim bus fares I am costing them nothing so they can call me in whenever they feel like it. Maybe I should catch a bus and apply for many jobs and make sure they are applications that need a stamp. They might soon put me then on a fortnightly appointment to save money. The best job at Golate House must surely be the one held by the security guy on reception. He sits in his chair and presses a button to let us in and out and it must be a very relaxing way to spend the day. Seeing people walk past the windows and entering or leaving the Ladbrokes betting shop across the road from Golate House. I'm no stranger when it comes to betting shops but I try to avoid the ones near Working Links and they now have a Betfred betting shop less than fifty yards further down St Mary St from Working Links. What hope do people have to save money when temptation is everywhere? I guess the only negative about being a security officer in an office building on reception is having to wear a shirt telling the whole world what you do for a living. I wouldn't mind sitting in reception pressing a button all day with just a name tag on my shirt. Now that's a reasonable job to have.
