Lip service for the unemployed 20 April 2012 I attended monday and thursday this week and on one occasion I heard a guy at Working Links mention a job he wasn't put forward for. It appears that he couldn't go for a job at Working Links because he had some kind of driving conviction. The job was I understand with Working Links yet they would gladly give him a reference if he needed one for a job. They do try and build up our confidence but wouldn't consider employing us which just about sums up how they really feel about us when they give us those friendly chats. I'm sure most of us accept that we only receive lip service from the staff and they wouldn't really care if we were run over by a bus in reality. They wouldn't win any oscars for their acting as it really does sound false and to keep them happy I tend to go along with it although I'm fully aware of the situation. At the end of the day we are only attending Working Links to avoid being sanctioned and loss of benefits and at the moment I find it a price worth paying. Next week I will be taking in a list of the jobs I have recently applied for and with a member of staff will be contacting those employers for any feedback on my applications. I will go through with it with the thought that it won't be for too long and I will eventually be heading home. A funny thing happened the other day as I arrived at Working Links in Golate House. I decided to use the lift and as I went to the lift a woman was also waiting. The lift door opened and she walked in and I followed behind. She didn't press any button so I pressed the button for the second floor where Working Links are and as the lift reached the second floor and I left she still hadn't pressed a button and then the doors closed. Maybe she thought I looked a bit rough and wanted to make sure I didn't know what floor she was going to. She did look a bit snooty and was holding a bunch of keys but it takes all sorts in this world and she probably wouldn't give me a job either and I don't have any criminal convictions. I just had a naughty thought. Wouldn't it be great if she ended up unemployed and attending Working Links. She would soon look a bit rough herself to go with her snooty appearance. She would then be a perfect member of the Working Links staff. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
