Here we go again 12 April 2012
I have had a few appointments since my last report on here and today was the latest one. Before easter I was told that we would be put in groups for a six week course. This would result in people looking for admin attending together and people for example looking for shop work in another group. We would attend as a group for at least two occasions a week for a six week period. In reality it was taking a few things we did on the new deals of the past and making a mini course out of them to last six weeks.
Imagine the situation, I had to attend on a monday before easter for jobsearch and I was taken aside and told about the course at Working Links and asked to sign a form saying that I would attend. I was told that the others were due in on tuesday and sign the form then and we would all meet together on tuesday and thursday each week. The course basically was about looking for details of companies we would be interested in and obtaining the contact details. This of course is about us phoning up these employers in the hope that they might have a job vacancy that has not been advertised. Later on we are going to have to do things such as interviews etc.
So I go home after signing expecting that I have to come back on thursday 5th april. When I got home I thought I had better double check so I immediately phoned the guy at Working Links and he assured me that I didn't have to attend on tuesday as I had signed the form and just attend on thursday. I turned up on thursday to discover that he wasn't in the office and no one else turned up for that particular appointment. When I arrived for my tuesday appointment with the group on 10th april this week the guy said a misunderstanding took place. After a couple of hours of looking for employers to contact most of the group said that they would be back in on friday. As I was told tuesday and thursday this was a bit confusing and when I questioned it I was offered the choice of either day so I stuck to thursday and went in today for an hour or so.This means that I will be in different groups each week. The guy said that as we are all going to do the same course it wouldn't make any difference what group I was in so maybe calling it a group course was just the usual bit of nonsense in an attempt to try and do something different with the unemployed rather than be accused of just allowing them to do jobsearch. Just five weeks to go but maybe four if they count signing a form as week one of the course, I wouldn't put it passed them.
I heard a few responses today regarding people failing to attend and I would advise everyone to always attend appointments. You may get away with the odd missed appointment but sanctions mean loss of benefit and single people won't get any sympathy from officialdom. I was accused many months ago of missing an appointment but I was never informed and I believe it was a member of the staff trying to cause me trouble because I had complained about them. I am very honest and I told her I would complain before I actually did. When people treat you badly and are in the wrong and they don't care then someone has to complain but always complain using the system and never in any way be threatening as they will use it to make things far worse for you.
I guess on tuesday I will have to phone a couple of employers and ask if they have any vacancies just to keep Working Links happy. The one good thing about the Working Links office is that you can use the water machine as much as you like. Might come in handy if we have a drought this summer.
