Jobcentres and jobsearch efforts 08 March 2012 I attended my Working Links appointment on monday 5th march and I have just come back from my thursday 10am appointment. I completed about an hour and a quarter of jobsearch and will be back for more next wednesday. Something I overheard concerned me a little so I am going to comment on it here. Someone had phoned in about having a problem with the jobcentre over their efforts looking for employment. When I go into the jobcentre to sign every fortnight I take my booklet in and they glance at it and initial and date it. It is important that all jobseekers make sure they have at least six efforts to find work during the fortnight. If someone applied for ten jobs in one work programme session, although it will be more than enough job applications it will only look like one actual job effort and if the jobcentre are counting efforts you make then a doubt could arise and benefits could be at risk. I always make sure that I apply for a lot of vacancies and that I have at least six different days listed in my jobcentre booklet. I guess you could always put one or two of the jobs you apply for when you are at your work programme provider down in the booklet for other days during the fortnight rather than listing them in one box for one particular day. If you attend the work programme twice a week then you would have at least four separate dates for your booklet during that fortnight. I'm sure some people think that once you are on the work programme the jobcentre can be ignored but that is not the case. One guy came in today and he found out that they had given him the wrong appointment date so it was a wasted journey but at least he got his bus fare for todays trip. People who are on the work programme do appear to be accepting the situation and although I think it is a waste of money and a better job could be done for far less it makes sense not to rock the boat when benefits are involved. I would still stand up for my rights concerning such things as control over my CV but maybe if a form of workfare does come into effect and one day it probably will then accepting the situation might not be acceptable to many of us. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
