Another day another jobsearch session
02 March 2012
I arrived at 10am on wednesday to do another session of jobsearch and it appears that I am attending two days a week on average. Maybe I'm not being parked quite yet or they might just let me attend once a fortnight as that is supposed to be the minimum requirement. I heard someone say that they had found a job so maybe Working Links might get a bonus outcome out of it. This has been the only time I have heard anyone say that they had found a job since I have been going to the Working Links offices but I'm sure a number have found employment. Maybe not many have found work but it must be a lot more than one in eight months. It's becoming a kind of routine for me. I walk for twenty five minutes to Golate House and the security guard on reception presses a button to let me in and then I head for the lift or walk up the stairs. Working Links are on the second floor and when you want to leave the building and the security guy isn't at his post then you simply press the green button on the wall on your right and hey presto the door opens and you can leave. So let's say I spend an hour and a quarter doing jobsearch and two twenty five minute walks to eventually get home then I am spending approximately two hours and five minutes of my time every time I have to attend Working Links. It doesn't sound so bad when it's broken down like that but I'm sure that I will have to attend some of their courses over longer periods in the near future but if they could forget about me it would be fine with me. If I find employment it will be down to my own efforts unless Working Links are more proactive and contact employers and ask them to at least interview us when they have vacancies. It's looking more like the old New Deal than ever before but without the five day thirteen weeks we had to endure then.
