Megaphones at the ready 16 February 2012
I have just been to my fortnightly signing at the jobcentre and on the way back I went to Tesco's in Albany road in Cardiff. Outside was a man with a megaphone making statements referring to Tesco's participation in the scheme to make the unemployed work for nothing in the name of work experience or be sanctioned. I'm sure we are all aware of this scandalous situation but it doesn't hurt to remind companies like Tesco's that slave labour isn't popular. I still did my shopping in Tesco's as they are in general a good store for buying affordable food and sadly it is more affordable because of the free labour they enjoy. I personally don't think we should boycott Tesco's but instead just hope that the people who run the company show some decency and leave the scheme. If they have a real job available then no one would mind completing a work trial with the chance to get off benefits. Although I tend to be looking for office work I know that I would apply for a job stacking shelves and complete a work trial if necessary but slave labour is cruel and evil and even worse when the company involved is making massive profits.
