Through the floorby Simon - 09:32 on 01 August 2008I have been doing general haulage work on and off now for over 13 years. Every time I get a load that could cause a problem and would warrant an even more than usual vigilant driver , I can usually tell while loading, as its usualy pretty obvious. A wise boss of mine told me you drive your trailer not your tractor unit BUT, he would emphasise with some expletives more importantly, you drive the load that's on the back of the trailer and drive accordingly! This load should not have caused any problems but the feeling it would was there when I left the shipper. So I stopped and checked the load straps chains regularly but no probs maybe just my imagination. Stopped at Yorkton for fuel no probs there, that's good must be all in the heed! But no after returning to the yard and on closer inspection in daylight, revealed that the 35000lb was too much for the trailer floor and has started to go through it. Loosened off the tarp and straps and luckily enough the forklift managed to lift the steel up enough to get 2 sleepers underneath to give the load better support. Job done left the depot and headed to Pembina to cross into the states. Parked up for the night at a rest area near St Cloud.
