News for Week 21st to 27th August

Sunday 21st. Janie Kyle kept all of our hopes alive for a successful Monklands Championships by winning her semi final singles game postponed from yesterday. Best of luck in the Final at Garrowhill next Saturday Janie.

"Naveed Day Today" Try Bowls game. Just a quick reminder to all members that the "Naveed Day Today" sponsored bowls afternoon, organised by the Senior Section but open to all members and "new to the sport" residents in the near locality will be taking place this Thursday, 25th, with a 1.00pm start. The object of the afternoon is to try and encourage new members by giving them a taste of the game. This was a very successful event last year and it looks like it could be so again. Experienced and not so experienced members will be paired with a newcomer in a series of 2-bowl triples games. If you have not yet got your name down to play contact John Telford ASAP as there may be a vacancy for one or two members, or just come along for a while to give your support to those taking part.

Wednesday 24th. For the last game of the Lanarkshire Leagues the Div 4 team were at home to Larkhall. With the results already in we knew that we required a full points win to overtake Quarter at the top of the table but we only managed a 4-2 victory. It was a disappointing end to the season but the boys should be congratulated in being in contention right to the last game.

Thursday 25th. Approximately twenty members and ten invited guests from the near locality, mostly who have never played before, were formed into teams of three and they spent the entire afternoon playing in a uniquely scoring game of two bowl triples for prizes donated by the sponsor, Naveed Day ToDay, Petersburn. The winning team comprised Janette Dalziel, Bob McGarry and George Low and on behalf of the players and other prize winners, George thanked the Senior's organising committee, the caterers and our main sponsor, for a wonderful afternoon which will hopefully encourage several new people to take up the sport in the future.

Saturday 27th. The great successes of Caldercraig Bowlers in 2016 continued today when Janie Kyle had a comfortable win in the final of the MBA Ladies Singles Championship at Garrowhill.
