CLUB NEWS

Week Ending 20th July: Our penultimate game was away to Airdrie Central in the Section 1 League, but undaunted we took on and beat the current league leaders by 4 points to nil and a 13 shots advantage. This result puts us in third place in the league (behind Springwells and Central) but the latter has the advantage of having two games to play.

This Wednesday was a free week for the Club who were currently sitting in top spot before this week's games. With two more games to go in Section 4, both at home versus Uddingston and Bothwell, our destiny is in our own hands. Note: The League Status after games played this week is:-

Club Games Played Points Total Shots Difference
Uddingston 11 27 + 50
Caldercraig 10 26 + 91
Springwells 10 26 + 35
Bothwell 11 23 - 11

Week Ending 13th July: We had another very good result in the Section 1 (Monday) League against C/B Victoria with maximum points and a 17 shots advantage.

Our Section 4 team started a run of three home games on Wednesday 10th which will complete our league fixtures for this season. Bellshill & Mossend were the visitors and we had an excellent result, securing another 4 points and an additional 43 shots. The League leaders before today were Springwells but with them having their rest day we have taken over the top spot. Caldercraig have a rest day next Wednesday (17th).

Week Ending 6th July: There was a very welcome return to form with a resounding victory over Clarkston (away) in the Monday league with 4 points earned and 41 shots in the bank. A repeat at Home versus Victoria next Monday would be very nice. The League leaders are Airdrie Central and Caldercraig are languishing in 5th place.

On Wednesday afternoon there were two very closely contested games in the Senior League. Going in to the final ends our two triples were behind, but fortune favoured the brave in one game and we ran out winners after collecting five shots. Up until the skip of Springwells other team played his final bowl of the afternoon we still had a chance of maximum points but were pleased in the end to share the points. Springwells retain their 2 points advantage at the top of the table, followed by Caldercraig with Uddingstone in 3rd place, 1 point behind Caldercraig.

Week Ending 29th June: Our Monday league match at Calderbank was another disapointment when once again this year we failed to earn a point, but our Wednesday team fared much better with a welcome return to form and maximum points earned against Garrowhill at our home green. With Four more games to play our Section 4 team are in 2nd place, 2 points behind Springwells. The final run down starts at Springwells next Wednesday, 3rd July.

The twice weekly afternoon rink games are ongoing and there has been a reasonably good turn-out for most days. The race for the Bob Telford Trophy (awarded to the most successful competitor on the rink games played throughout the season) is keenly contested again this year with John Black, Robert Murray and John Wilson the current front runners. We are not yet at the half-way stage so there is still plenty of time for others to join or even overtake them all. Reminder - every attendee on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons who competes in the rink game or a Seniors' competition will receive points to add to their running total.

Week Ending 22nd June: Our Monday League team (Section 1) were at home against Springwells and both games went down to the last bowl, and in both cases it resulted in a drawn match. 2 Points each. On Wednesday our Section 4 team travelled to Gartsherrie but we were not able to win either of the two games.

Week Ending 8th June: Our League 1 team (Monday League) were away to Airdrie B.C. but they failed to gain any points. Meanwhile, the Wednesday (League 4) team played their game on Monday at the request of our opponents, Uddingston, and the points were shared.

Caldercraig hosted a BS Senior Singles and Senior 4's semi-final games on Wednesday 5th whilst our Senior Rink played their semi-final at Burnhead. Unfortunately they were beaten by the team from Calderbank and as reported previously, Jim Purves lost in the Singles 1/4 Finals last week.

Please note that there is a new competition for Seniors this year. Added to the long running Monklands League Singles and Fours competitions, the latter of which we won last year, there is a Pairs knockout competition, where we have two representative teams, one representing the Monday League players and one from Section 4. This competition commences on Monday 22nd July and Wednesday 24th July and will conclude on 21st August. The Draws and selected Representatives Names will be posted on the Seniors notice board in the near future.

Week Ending 1st June: On Monday our league team were hosts to Airdrie Central and with one game each we shared the points. We had a small shots advantage overall.

Our Wednesday league team had a free week, but the club were involved in the B.S. Senior championships with Jim Purves playing at Glengowan in the singles. Jim lost his keenly fought game to his Gartsherrie opponent. The Senior Fours rink were due to play at Whifflet against Coatdyke but their opponents could not field a team and Caldercraig were given a bye in to the semi-final which will be played on Wednesday 5th June at Burnhead, 1.30pm start.

Week Ending 25th May:  Our Monday league team shared the points against Coatbridge Victoria but with a 7 shots overall advantage.

The Wednesday league fixture was brought forward to Tuesday to allow both teams to participate in the B.S. Senior Championships but our lads lost both games away to Bellshill/Mossend.

On Wednesday, Jim Purves beat his opponent to progress to the next round of the Senior Single's Championship and we also had success in the Senior Fours when the rink, skipped by D McIntyre overcame their Airdrie BC opponents.

Week Ending 18th May:  The Monday League game (Sect 1) resulted in a share of the points at home against our Clarkston neighbours but with a 2 shots deficit. We will have to improve in the coming weeks if we want to retain our title. After 3 games we lie in joint fourth place, 6 points behind leaders Springwells.

In Sect 4, our team has full points after 3 games following their narrow victories over Springwells and now lead the second placed club by 4 pts. Our opponents next week are Bellshill/Mossend who have already had their free week and have accrued 4 points.

In the Bowls Scotlands over 50's singles Jim Purves had a fine win over his Springwells opponent and will continue to try and retain his District title in next Wednesday's game, at which point the rest of our Senior's selections will enter the District competitions.

Week Ending 11th May:  The representatives for the Scottish and Lanarkshire Competitions have been posted. Please check and signify your availability asap. Any problems, please contact the convenor, Andy Kyle.

The draws for the club competitions will be posted by Tuesday. Note that all games must be played or otherwise decided by the closing dates for each round. As in past years there will be no extensions except for those as laid down for Gents Section competitions.

The Monday League game was played at home against Calderbank and we had to settle for a share of the points but the Wednesday league team had a good win away to Garrowhill and they top the league with maximum points at this early stage of the season.

Week Ending 4th May:  There were mixed fortunes in the first games of the Monklands Seniors League matches. On Monday, no points were earned in the game at Springwells but full points were gained at home against Gartsherrie in the Section 4 League on Wednesday.

The closing date for entry to all Club Competitions is Saturday 4th May. The draws will be made on Monday 6th.
