Wee Highland Tour

"The Wee Highland Tour" is designed to introduce you to some of my favourite Mountains and Hills which are North, South, East and West of Inverness, and are within an hours drive of the City. The package includes daily transport to the venue of the day and return to Inverness, a packed lunch can be provided for a small charge

Day 1

We travel North to visit Inverness's own "Ben" Ben Wyvis It has been said that you could play a game of golf on top of Ben Wyvis. The summit plateau, which is about 2km in length, is beautifully flat with short springy grass, not unlike a well kept golf course. The views from this extensive plateau are impressive, below is the Cromarty Firth which cuts deeply into Scotlands East coast, and looking to the West  the magestic "An Teallach" which runs right down to the sea. The trek is 14km (8.75miles) mostly on good paths.

Day 2

Today we head South and then East to The Cairngorm National Park, there is a choice of routes here, but the Big Two, Cairngorm and Ben MacDubhi should not be missed, and being two of Scotlands 4000'ers means that the panoramic views are fantastic, the massive Cairngorm plateau has been likened to Arctic Tundra, and has also been called the 400 million year old landscape, this is a unique area in Scotland and is cherished by all who visit. With a bit of luck you may catch a glimpse of the herd of Reindeer that graze here, they were introduced in the 1950's and have been here every since. There are also the stories of the mythical "Old Grey Man of MacDubhi" and the Sith (Highland Fairies) that linger in the Glens of these Mountains, dare you look for them? the choice is yours. This trek is 17.5km (10.75miles) on excellent paths, with the need for careful navigation should the weather become a bit misty, it can be shortened if required by the group.

Day 3

South, down the Great Glen for Day 3, views of Loch Ness, and maybe a glimpse of Nessie, who knows! Past Urquhart Castle and on to Laggans Bridge, which froms a part of the Caledonian Canal. From "The Well of the Seven Heads" a drive along the North side of Loch Lochy and we are ready to start out trek, the 2 "Munro's" that are the target for the day are Sron a' Choire Ghairbh and Meall na Teanga.  An interesting place, for the pass that we are about to use for our ascent was used by the Highlanders many years ago, these were hard times and many incidents happened here, which we will discover on the day. The spectacular views that await us are truly breathtaking, we will look on to Glen Spean, home of the Commando's during World War II and "The Nevis Range" the location of the highest Mountain in the UK "Ben Nevis" we will also look down on the Caledonian Canal that we left just a short time ago, a feat of engineering coupled with natures great waterways, this was Thomas Telford's legacy to Scotland. This trek is 14km (8.75) and on good paths

Day 4  to

The Group will have an opportunity to choose the route today, for we will travel West to visit one the of the finest area's in Scotland, Kintail. This is the place to be for ridge walking and scrambling, we have the easier Carn Ghluasaid Ridge at 12km (7.5miles) to The South Glen Shiel Ridge at 20km (13miles) or the more technical Forcan Ridge and on to The Saddle, although I would suggest that the South Glen Shiel Ridge needs a fresh pair of legs, however these choices can be made on the days previous. Time permitting, a visit to the famous Cluanie Inn may well be included to finish the tour with a wee dram

There are pictures of most of the area's in the gallery, but if there other places that your group would like to visit this can be done on prior arrangement.

Some flexibility may need to be used because of weather or any unforeseen circumstances
