ARDROSS COMMUNITY WOODLAND COMPANY

The Ardross Community Woodland Company (ACWC) was formally constituted on 10th July 2008.

Its predecessor, the sub-committee of the Ardross Community Council, was dissolved, to be replaced by the ACWC in order to be able to access public funding sources, as these are only available to legally constituted and registered groups.

Purpose

The company was formed with the following purposes:

    • To manage community land and associated assets for the benefit of the Community, and the public in general, following principles of sustainable development.

    • To provide, or assist in providing, recreational facilities, and/or organising recreational activities, which will be available to members of the public at large with the object of improving the conditions of life of the Community.

    • To advance community development, including urban or rural regeneration.

    • To advance the education of the Community about its environment, culture, heritage and/or history.

    • To advance environmental protection or improvement including preservation, and conservation of the natural environment, the promotion of sustainable development, the maintenance, improvement or provision of environmental amenities for the community and/or the preservation of buildings or sites of architectural, historic or other importance to the community.

Liability

The company is 'Limited by Guarantee'; this means that, in the event of the company being wound up, the members of the company are only liable for a maximum of £1 each towards any outstanding debts.

Membership

Anybody who supports the Company's purposes can become a member, upon payment of the annual membership fee (currently £1).

However, only individuals who are resident and registered to vote in Ardross may become a voting ('Ordinary') member of the company.  Other categories of membership are either 'Associate' (for those resident outwith Ardross, or organistions), or 'Junior' (for those aged 12 - 17).

  • print off the membership form and send it, completed and with a pound, to the Secretary.
