ARDROSS COMMUNITY WOODLAND SUB-COMMITTEE

Ardross Community Council held a public meeting on 23 March 2006, which voted in favour of registering an interest in the Kildermorie woodland. Interest has been duly registered with the Forestry Commission Scotland.

Meanwhile, a group of community members was seperately established to look at a range of other possibilities for community woodland in Ardross. After discussion within the community, and advised by the Community Land Unit of HIE, it was decided that a unified approach to the issue was essential. It was therefore agreed by those present at a meeting on 2 October 2006 that a single Ardross Community Woodland Sub-Committee (ACWSC) should be established under the aegis of the Community Council.

The ACWSC initial remit was to:

(i) consider all woodland options in Ardross, including Kildermorie

(ii) consult the whole community about what it wants from a community woodland, and

(iii) commission a forestry consultant to advise on the various options to be put to a community vote.

A start up grant was awarded by the CLU to cover the running costs of ACWSC.

The final ACWSC membership was:

Jeremy Spurway - Chairman
Matt Stevenson - Secretary (replacing Anthony Chamier)
Willie Beattie - member
Elliott Blaauw - member
John Edmonson - member

previous membership included:

Anthony Chamier
Martin Brown
Chris Bridges
Peter Allen
James Clark
Tom Tolman

The ACWSC has now been dissolved, to be replaced by the legally constituted Ardross Community Woodland Company (ACWC)
