MAINTENANCE - STERN GEAR

 

Removed propellor, prop shaft (but only by removing P bracket first), stuffing box and flange. Gearbox flange was wire brushed and then painted with Hammerite Smooth Silver. New cutlass bearing inserted into P bracket but had to drill out old grub screws then tap new threads. Key for propellor had virtually disappeared so a new one was made. Shaft is one inch and stern tube, one and a half inches.

 

Refitted shaft and P bracket with plenty of Sikaflex. Installed simple one blade rope cutter.  new PSS shaft seal. flexible shaft coupling from R&D Marine (part 910-012) and new steel split half coupling (part 202-316).
