The Road to Net Zero
26 September 2022

Our 26th September meeting was an opportunity to catch up on business. ‘Past president medals’ were presented to Findlay McLaren (right in photo) and to Eric Govan, along with the club’s thanks for leading through the difficult times of Covid.

The club treasurer gave an update on monies raised by the Coastal Path Charity Walk - which is looking in the region of £5500, perhaps a little more. Thanks and congratulations to the walkers who made this possible - and who unfortunately had to put up with less than ideal weather this year!

Speaker at the meeting was club member George Hunter, who gave a very interesting and well researched and illustrated talk about ‘The Road to Net Zero’. This describes the government’s October 2021 strategy, targets and plans to move away from the use of fossil fuels. George focussed on the infrastructure needed to migrate from petrol and diesel engined cars to electric and the practical challenges that will need to be overcome.

It was a topic that generated much interest and, following questions, a vote of thanks was proposed by Bill Batchelor.
