Bloodhound Supersonic Car
April 2011
‘Confront the impossible and overcome it using Science Engineering Technology and Mathematics.’
Mission statements of the Bloodhound SSC project
Bloodhound SSC is the name of the project building a car that will travel at speeds in excess of 1,000mph and break the current World Land Speed Record. The car is being designed and built collaboratively between the University of the West of England and Swansea University. It’s gong to have a distinct, highly aerodynamic shape, and will be powered by a Euro Fighter jet engine and a hybrid rocket!
On the 5th, 6th and 7th April, Backwell School hosted the Bloodhound SSC Show, complete with the full sized show car and rocket motor. Students from Backwell, Priory, Gordano, St Katherine’s, Churchill and Wyvern schools listened as Bloodhound staff talked about the danger and excitement of travelling overland at over 1,000mph, and the technology which makes it all possible. The Bloodhound Shows provided an opportunity for students to see how what they learn in STEM lessons can be applied to create something truly inspiring.
