A GENERAL NOTE ON MEETINGS
When attending meetings at the Basildon Centre in St Martin's Square, there is ample free parking in the Council's underground car park. You access this by Westgate (a service road) leading to the rear of the building - turn sharp right at the first traffic lights on Broadmayne after the Roundacre roundabout.
When you enter the Centre, ask at the Security Office in the Centre lobby for access and directions to the meeting room.
The Forum meets regularly every month, usually on a Wednesday evening. Everyone is welcome, newcomers especially so: you don't need an invitation, but newcomers are invited to introduce themselves, and Forum participants will in turn introduce themselves.
The meeting usually starts with a minute or so of shared silence. Some people like to use the time for private prayer, but generally this quiet time allows us to settle, so the mind clears a little space for thoughts, feelings, wishes etc to emerge into consciousness, and have our attention. Some of these may find expression later as the meeting develops.
Sometimes we follow no prepared agenda: the 'business' of the meeting tends to emerge naturally from the developing dialogue of participants, and to bear fruit, even if it isn't always ripe-and-ready for immediate consumption! Most participants do feel the fellowship spiritually nourishes and satisfies us, with each meeting carrying some of that feeling over to everyday life, and to the next meeting.
Meetings sometimes include a short presentation by a participant, or an invited speaker talks on a matter of interest or concern. We occasionally arrange public meetings on a special topic, sometimes in partnership with other organisations or agencies.
